Variety, HSBC, Glynn among those to be honored by HANCI

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y., May 19, 2011 – The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. will present five awards at its annual meeting and luncheon at noon on June 2 at the Sheraton at the Falls, 300 Third St. The nonprofit agency will also conduct elections for its Board of Directors.

HSBC Bank USA, N.A., Community Development Department will receive the Outstanding Partner Award for helping HANCI to resurrect the Center for Joy. Also honored will be Maid of the Mist Corporation Chairman James V. Glynn, who will receive the Chris Richbart Heart of HANCI Award for his philanthropic support of HANCI and numerous other nonprofit organizations in the Niagara community. The Outstanding Sponsor Award will go to Variety – the Children’s Charity of Buffalo and Western New York, which supports HANCI’s summer program for children. Antonio’s Banquet and Conference Center will receive a Special Recognition Award for business excellence.

The emotional high point of the luncheon will be the presentation of the Karen Albond Courage in Caring Award, presented annually to an individual who perseveres in service to others despite a disability. Ryan Henderson, who was killed in an accident at age 35 in January, will receive the award posthumously. He was nominated by his parents, Timothy and Rebecca Henderson, who cited Ryan’s tenacity in overcoming stuttering to become an accomplished singer and musician, and his efforts to conquer severe asthma to become a marathon runner. Henderson went on to become a site manager for Rivershore Inc., where he served people with developmental disabilities.
