Coming in 2010 ... A Whole New Option for Eldercare

We all know that Niagara County is an aging community. When it comes to long care, there simply aren’t enough options for older adults and their caregivers. The Health Association of Niagara County Inc. (HANCI) and its partner agency, the Dale Association, are working to change that.

When it opens in the fall of 2010, Complete Senior Care will provide a whole new option. This new nonprofit 501(c)(3) entity will provide all the medical, social and support services needed to keep frail elders living at home instead of going into nursing homes. Complete Senior Care will provide for all healthcare needs under one umbrella. There is no income eligibility requirement for the program. Depending on individual circumstances, care will be paid for through any combination of Medicare, Medicaid and private funds.

Participants will attend a day center two to three days a week for meals, activities, medical services and rehabilitation therapies. A physician, nurse practitioner and other medical staff will be available on site at a clinic operated by Mount St. Mary’s Hospital and Health Center.

If a participant needs home care or any other service at home while away from the center, it will be provided. The program will provide, arrange and pay for primary care, any hospitalization, all specialty care, transportation, prescriptions, environmental and social supports, and even short-term and long-term nursing home care if needed. Social work will also be provided.

Complete Senior Care will improve eldercare, give peace of mind to caregivers, spur capital investment, create approximately 80 new jobs and save Medicaid dollars.

The Project

Complete Senior Care will lease space at HANCI’s Main Street campus in Niagara Falls. The Complete Senior Care center – including a medical clinic and a day facility with activities and meals – will occupy 11,000 square feet of newly renovated space. An attractive 1,100-square foot enclosed glass atrium has been added, giving Complete Senior Care participants year-round access to the beautiful garden on the corner of Main and Pierce. This $2 million capital investment will boost efforts to revitalize Main Street.

Viability and Sustainability

Once Complete Senior Care is underway, it will be fully sustainable. We have already attracted more than $4 million in grants, contributions and loans for startup and construction.

The Timeline

Construction of the clinic and day center will be complete in November 2009. After state and federal reviews, the program will open in fall 2010.
