HANCI - Services - Afternoon Reading All-Stars
Open to second and third grade students at Abate School who are struggling with reading and comprehension, this programs offers the opportunity to receive focused reading strategy instruction as well as activities designed to enrich and build background knowledge in the music, science and social studies content area.
This program begins at 3:00 p.m. by gathering the students. The students are greeted by staff and given a snack and time to wind down or receive help with homework. At 3:30 p.m. the teacher and teaching assistants will begin the focused reading instruction. Mini-lessons used for this instruction come from diagnostic testing such as running records and story retells, as well as anecdotal records from the student's teacher. The students also have access to small library as well as the Niagara Falls Public Library.
After the Reading Workshop, the students participate in various activities such as music, art, character education and physical development.
