Foster Grandparent Program

Foster Grandparents are individuals age 60 and over who thrive on direct interaction with children and believe they can make a difference in their lives.


Foster Grandparents devote their volunteer service to infants, children and youth:

  • Offering emotional support and guidance to children;
  • Tutoring children in need of one-on-one academic support; 
  • Mentoring youth and young parents; and      
  • Caring for premature infants and children with developmental challenges. 
     

Eligibility: To become a Foster Grandparent, volunteers must be age 60 or older, meet certain income eligibility guidelines and be able to serve between 15 and 40 hours a week.

Benefits: Foster Grandparents are able to make strong emotional connections with children and get a great deal of satisfaction from making a difference in their lives. In addition, they receive the following:

  • A modest, tax-free stipend;
  • Pre-service and monthly training sessions;
  • Reimbursement for transportation;
  • An annual physical; and 
  • Accident and liability insurance while on duty.
